NOVEMBER 20 - 6TH GRADE INVENTOR FIELD TRIP PROSPECTOR THEATER

We are so pleased to announce that our 6th graders will be taking a special field trip to the Prospector Theater in Ridgefield on Monday, November 20th (Inventors).

Students must bring a lunch from home.  We will be having popcorn and lemonade/water, but students may bring $5 to purchase one item from the concession.

Students will not only be seeing a private screening of the movie Wonder, based on the New York Times’ best-selling novel by R.J. Palacio, but will also be engaging in a service learning experience.  As you may know, the Prospector is a non-profit theater dedicated to providing meaningful employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.  Employees of the Prospector, referred to as Prospects, are encouraged to sparkle, shine, and transform their passions into professions and will be working with our students and encouraging them to carry on their mission.  Our trip to the Prospector ties in beautifully with the messages of inclusion and kindness from the novel, Wonder.  Many 6th graders have previously read the book, and for those who haven’t, we have students bringing in extra copies to loan to classmates so that they may enjoy Wonder during their independent reading time leading up to the trip.

It is also a wonderful novel for parents to read not only because it is such a heartwarming story, but because it reminds us all about the importance of teaching our middle schoolers about kindness.  Here is an article and interview with the author from the Washington Post:

Additional copies of the details of the trip and of the permission slip are located on the 6th grade classroom page.  Payment and forms are due no later than Wednesday, November 15th.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Sincerely,
